Music To Lift the Spirit
Our Sunday services are filled with music as varied as the beliefs of our congregation. Our three Music Directors rotate services and program musical selections, which support and enhance the exploration of each weekly sermon topic. We’re extremely fortunate to have our music program led by these talented and committed individuals:
- Alissa Rhode, Lead Music Director
- Christian Rich, Music Director
- Jack Forbes Wilson, Music Director
Among many musical treats you’ll find at our church are a Steinway grand piano and a recently installed pipe organ. In the installation, Chicago’s Berghaus Organ Co. used a number of the original pipes from an 1892 organ.
Our church offers a rich variety of opportunities to blossom through musical expression.
- First Unitarian Chancel Choir. Led by the talented Christian Rich, our choir is made up of 35 adults, which expands to more than 50 for the Christmas Festival Choir.
- Kids Quire. Led jointly by Alissa Rhode and Jack Forbes Wilson, the Kids Quire performs seasonally and is open to elementary school-aged children.
- Guest Artists and Ad Hoc Ensembles. Music Directors Jack Forbes Wilson and Alissa Rhode are frequently joined by talented First Church members, friends, and guests. On any given Sunday, you might hear a violin concerto, Broadway showtunes, flamenco or bluegrass!
- Choralfest. This annual event is sponsored by the congregations of the Southeastern Wisconsin Unitarian Universalist Council. More than 200 singers perform in a joint concert in February or March.
- Concerts. Members and friends join together for occasional concerts in the Sanctuary or Max Otto Hall.
