The Rev. Kennedy Comments: “Just as we are called to grow as individuals, so, too, our congregation continues to grow. We now have over 700 members. Why should we want to grow anymore? Isn’t 700 enough? Besides, it’s so crowded, especially at 9:15. Join me as we review our “calling to grow,†drawing on the research of Thom Rainer, whose book Breakout Churches suggests that four-fifths of our country’s 400,000 churches are either in decline or stagnant. Come, too, to learn how here at First Church we are breaking all the rules, according to Rainer, with our liberal spiritual approach.”
