“Do Unitarian Universalists celebrate Easter Sunday?†my friend asks. “Yes,†I respond. She raises her eyebrow and cocks her head, “Really? What do they celebrate?†And I tell her… I tell her… I tell her of eggs and rabbits and flowers. Of darkness and light and of the moon and the sun. Of dancing and coupling, flirting and celebrating. Of Goddesses and Gods. Of Death. Of Life. Of Resurrections and Rebirths. I tell her about one of the oldest and most meaningful of holy days. I tell her of Easter.
