WHY YOUR CONTRIBUTION MAKES A DIFFERENCE TO FIRST CHURCH:
In 2005, members of the First Unitarian Society of Milwaukee committed to furthering our mission by adopting a strategic plan called “Vision 2010.” This plan calls us to:
- share our unique spiritual home with those searching for a faith community;
- provide community service and leadership for social justice; and
- expand the experiences and opportunities that we offer our members to meet their spiritual needs and express social justice concerns.
We have accomplished a majority of the “Vision 2010” goals. Now our society must grow its financial base to fulfill and sustain our vision. Simply speaking, annual pledge income must increase by $50-$60,000 in this pledge drive and in the next two pledge drives. Why?
- We funded start-up costs and the initial expanded ministry of Vision 2010 through a special 2005 fund drive which raised over $900,000. We have used up to $150,000 of these funds each year since 2006, including $100,000 in the current year, to supplement Pledge Drive income and pay the cost of our expanded staff, increased number of Sunday services, and additional small group ministries.
- Our achievements under Vision 2010 demonstrate that we are a vibrant, welcoming spiritual community.
- The “Thrive Drive” funds will be spent in two years, by which time First Church must sustain our vision on a pay-as-we-go basis.
